The Hub, Council Bluffs, chosen for November Small Business of the Month Award

AMES, Iowa – America’s SBDC Iowa (SBDC) is pleased to announce that The Hub of Council Bluffs is the winner of the SBDC’s statewide Business of the Month Award for November. The award was announced in late November and because of the Thanksgiving holiday, it will be presented to The Hub at the December 16th City Council Meeting at 7 pm,  with an informal reception and celebration to follow afterwards at The Hub. The community is welcome to join in on the celebration.

The Hub opened for business in May 2018 to fulfill the need for family entertainment in the area. The business renovated and now occupies the former YMCA building located on 7 South 4th Street in downtown Council Bluffs. The Hub contains four different businesses:

  • Fly Zone Trampoline Park – featuring open bounce, dunk hoops, dodge ball court and more
  • Elite Cheer – the only All-Star Cheer and Tumbling facility in Council Bluffs
  • Jumping Monkeys Childcare – childcare with a creative curriculum
  • Pizza and More – offering fresh ground coffee and delicious food to the patrons of The Hub

Brooke Hubbard, owner of The Hub, worked with the Iowa Western SBDC as well as Advanced Southwest Iowa throughout the process of the buildout of the former YMCA in downtown Council Bluffs. The two organizations often work together to help small businesses and start-ups get access to all resources to help start the business successfully.

The Hub has attracted many different demographics to one location as well as filling the void the absence of the YMCA left the area. The Hub adds needed life and vitality to downtown Council Bluffs.

Brooke Hubbard runs all these businesses and is also extremely involved in the community. She serves on the Chamber Board of Directors, is an Alumni of Leadership Council Bluffs, is involved in empowering woman through many different venues, and is an advocate for community life in Council Bluffs. Brooke is married to Jeff who together own two more businesses including Ace Realty and Mad Max Carpet Cleaning.  They also have 4 children ranging in ages from 5 to 14 years.

Sue Pitts, Regional Director of the Iowa Western SBDC, continues to provide advice and support in managing the four businesses. She says, “It’s been exciting to see Brooke’s vision for The Hub come to life. It’s such a great addition to our community! I look forward to seeing what is next for them.”
